Greetings folks! A while ago a one of my subscribers channel asked me this question: What I would choose if I had to decide between regular keto diet and OMAD with starches. Even though I answered the question in some previous videos, I taught it maybe a great idea to write something on this topic. So here it is.
Ketogenic diet and the one meal a day plan are two of the most fundamental elements of my lifestyle. Both helped me to drastically improve my overall health, physique and brain performance. I am so thankful for them, because they allowed me reveal one completely new and totally better version of myself. Since they produce identical results, I also believe to a very big extend they are both sides of the same thing. One leads to the other.
For me ketosis not only made eating OMAD possible, but essential and effortless. True to be told, after years of doing both, I cannot imagine even imagine wasting my time and daily energy eating more than once.
Even though nowadays I no longer only fats and proteins 100% of the time, I truly believe for a lot of people, that diet can be the ultimate tool for making fasting more than easy. In other words: The key to not eating.
Accordingly to many studies keto diet mimics the results of fasting and is able to provide up to 71% of its benefits. Because of that both are used for many different applications including threat for diseases such as diabetes, aggressive forms of cancer and epilepsy. Both allow people control their insulin and blood sugar levels and both increase mental clarity, creativity, fat loss, muscle growth. Applying one to the other potentiates the effects of both and based on my personal experience, they help you get the sickest pumps.
If you are familiar with the content I create, then you probably already know, I am huge proponent of the usage of ketosis as an extremely effective tool for OMAD adaptation.
The reason for this is because the ketogenic state allows you feel zero hunger without any of the common side effects that may occur if you try switching from multiple to one meal per day. It makes the whole process very smooth and there are virtually no difficulties. This is how it worked for me and it will do the same thing for you.
Going keto even for few weeks, can entirely eliminate all hunger pangs, cravings and desires for food. It will also stabilize blood sugar levels and keep them stable during heavy workouts. Ketone bodies are muscle sparing and this is more than useful for all of us interested in improving our physiques. Specially during the heavy and high intense fasted workouts.
But in the end of the day if I have to make the decision, I would go with OMAD applied to a bit higher in protein paleo or primal diet, that also includes resistant starches.
In this situation I will start cycling keto and paleo days. The reason for this is because this will allow me to avoid nutrient deficiencies, while not combining carb and fat on the same day.
On the paleo days, I would reduce the amounts of fat I consume to almost minimum. I will stick with the same sources of protein, but I will switch all of the fatty cuts to meat with lean ones. Actually to the leanest possible ones.
I will still rely mostly on red meat, but as an additional protein source, I will substitute the whole eggs for hormone and antibiotic free, organic chicken or turkey breasts. I will add plenty of colorful veggies such as carrots, peppers, spinach, zucchini. I will cook all of them with water and I will definitely avoid overcooking and overheating.
As long as for my fuel source I will only consume arsenic and toxins free white basmati rice imported straight from India and yams or sweet potatoes.
The reason for choice of my fuel sources is that I do really well on bot. As long as for the rice, there is a specific local brand I typically go for, because it seems like it is the only type my body can tolerate. Other kinds can make me anxious and too edgy.
Surprisingly I have no blood sugar spikes nor crashes after consuming those foods. But what fascinates me is that during the 24hour fast my blood sugar levels stay in the ranges between 4.3 to 4.6 or 4.8. The exact same numbers such as when I stay on a complete keto. Humans do not digest RS, so it does not affect blood sugar and insulin levels.
Just incase you wonder neither of those carbs is organic certified, but I love the taste of both. The rice I will cook by my modified version of the Gordon Ramsey’s recipe for that type of rice and the yams I will mostly bake.
I would not consume carbohydrates on top of fats. It does not make me feel good and for me it does not make any sense.
Since I will mostly rely on carbs, my body’s not going to be able to effectively utilize the dietary fats. So, I do not believe there is real need for a caloric overload. It tends to bloat me a lot and I don’t like the way I feel and look on the day after. It ruins the decent conditioning I able to maintain without any dieting.
A while ago I believed the rice I’ve mentioned is superior to the yams, but now I mostly eat them. Probably the reason for this is because subconsciously I felt the rice was giving me crazier pumps and making me fuller.
Conclusion.
The reasons for my choice are:
(As I’ve mentioned) I can’t even imagine to spend my time and energy eating frequent meals even if they are cooked with the best possible, free range eggs and grass fed butters or meats. This is simply not for me.
Every time food or calories are ingested, the body starts using the already available energy to turn the new one into fuel. I simply refuse to live like this, because I prefer to invest the energy in the really important things in my life. Daily goals, family, workouts and life in general.
I am too adapted and even addicted to the amazing way I feel during the fasted state. I feel like OMAD allows me to live more. To make progress with my life and physique and to get so much things done.
The paleo diet I use allow me to get pretty similar to OMAD KETO results. Actually maybe even better.
Specially when we talk about gym performance and getting fuller and more vascular pumps.
I know, I might get a bit edgy or even anxious if I stay on carbs for too long, but hey that’s why I said I will cycle things up.
In the end of the day the ketogenic diet imitates fasting, but it’s not fasting. I cannot even compare the regular keto diet to the OMAD with paleo. In any given time for me the second wins. I believe what makes the real difference are the actual fasting and the high quality food products. When those two are combined, OMAD always makes me feel Godly.
I hope that makes sense.
Yours truly:
