In the paragraphs bellow I do a brief review on a product I find extremely useful. I definitely recommend it, specially to often filming individuals that do everything on their own without any additional help. In my personal opinion this product can be a game changer when it comes to a situation when I have to cary a lot of filming gear on my own, which is almost every time when I film.
Before I start I would like to also mention, I bought the bag because of a necessity, nobody recommend it to me and I am not payed to do this review by any means. I do it to for two reasons.
One is because I have fun doing it and other is to provide a quick and effective solution for someone who is in the same situation such as me around an year or year and a half ago, when I started messing with video filming, editing and using external tools such as sliders action modules and heavy tripods.
Before I explain all of the features, options and pockets this bag has, I would like to share with you my main reason for buying the backpack and why find it so useful…
So in order to make the long story short I will tell you that around 2015 I took a decision expand my music production and take it to the next level by incorporating real music videos and visuals for certain of my tracks. Already having my DSLR Camera as long as I can remember I always was a huge fan of the smooth cinematic type of shots common seen in the movies, modern day music videos or commercials.
I always wanted to be able to do this shots by myself, so did my research and found the needed pieces of actual gear which will allow me to make it happen. I searched for motorized sliders, remote controls and others. When I made my decision I ordered motorized Slider and a Control Module. After I while I received the goods I’ve purchased. Everything was nicely packed and the slider has it’s own protection case which is awesome, but the first thing that appeared to my mind was:
How the … I am going to be able to cary all of that gear by myself. Now I am not only talking about the camera and the lenses but also about the relatively huge carbon fiber tripod, Laptop, External Storage in form of HD’s SD cards, Readers, Batteries ,Chargers, Cables and of course the Slider and the motorized module…
I felt like was in a position where I am stuck with all of the desired gear and I am not being able to use it.
I did a big research and I found an Instagram post on the Slider’s Manufacturers page. Explained with few words the post is a photo of a BackPack capable to cary all of the gear I have and even more.Than I searched more in order to find the brand, model and ordered immediately. Something I would probably never regret for.
Once arrived it was a game changer for me. All pieces of gear I use not only perfectly fit in, but they have a really good protection as well. The bag spreads the weight of them so it makes everything easier and a lot more comfortable for your back. This is so valuable feature specially for someone like me, because my back is often sore from deadlifts, rack pulls and others such as bent rows.
The biggest partition of the bag aka the Back Pocket is completely customizable. It allows to rearrange the space accordingly to your personal needs as long as Camera bodies, Lenses, Remote Controls, Fluid Ball Heads and etc. It can be spread in multiple different shapes which depends on the form of your particular pieces of gear. When the BP is on your back the gear is literally unreachable unless you take it of, a smart detail which if not else makes the things a bit more secure.
The front is the second biggest portion. There are many smaller pockets with or without zippers in this part one of them is dedicated to a 15/17 Inch MacBook Pro. I use it also for additional storage in form of external hard drives. There are also dedicated places for things like pens or pencils and an actual notebook for hand writing incase this is the way you prefer to have your storyboard.
A really cool handy feature is the zipper on top of the bag which allows quick check of the equipment without opening any of the big pockets.
On the left side of the bag there are some handles that are made for tripod. Me personally I prefer to cary the tripod I use in my hand, but that’s just me, you can go either way. On the right side there is another small pocket I see as a perfect place of phone or even a wallet.
As a conclusion I feel this is if not the best at least one of the best options for a filmmaker or photographer who does everything on his own without any additional help. In other words a perfect solution for a person who is “One Man Camera Crew” if I can put it like this.
I hope this makes sense for You.
